Junior Gong, I-Octane exclusive to Cream of the Crop this holiday season

Ocho Rios, JAMAICA:- With the abundance of parties, concerts and music events that the traditional ‘silly season’ always brings, it is inevitable that many major acts will be billed for at least two shows locally during this period. However, not so for mega dancehall artistes Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley and I-Octane; the only show they will be doing in Jamaica over the Christmas season is Cream of the Crop, the exciting December 27 concert to be staged at Pearly Beach in Ocho Rios, St. Ann

Produced by Purple Skunkz Entertainment, Cream of the Crop is all about delivering quality acts whose entertainment value is unquestioned. Grammy award winning deejay, Junior Gong, will make one of his few annual performances in Jamaica at this event and fans of the “Welcome To Jamrock” artiste are again eager to embrace him, just as they did at Rebel Salute in January.

The self-proclaimed “youngest veteran”, who is full of style and flava, has been keeping his fans aware of his movements via Facebook. “Ocho Rios get ready the Cream of the Crop is coming!” he posted last week, along with a flyer from the event. He has enjoyed a tremendous year working on projects with his Ghetto Youths International crew, a successful Welcome to Jamrock cruise, and the upcoming release of the highly anticipated various artiste CD, “Set Up Shop Vol. 2”. It was in February of this year that Junior Gong and dancehall artiste, Cham set the music world ablaze when they performed their hit single, ‘Fighter’, for UK’s top-rated entertainment show, ‘BBC 1Xtra’, at the Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston.

Digicel and Busta ambassador, I-Octane, aka The Closer, continues his total dominance of the dancehall, both locally and internationally, with a steady stream of hit songs and awesome performances. His appearance on Cream of the Crop closes out a tremendous year which saw him accept and deliver on the challenge to close Reggae Sumfest Dancehall Night for the second straight year, after which he headed for the festival circuit in Europe where he stamped his unique class and continued to tour on his critically acclaimed CD, “My Journey”.

Now in its second year, Cream of the Crop also features Jah Cure, Tarrus Riley, Busy Signal, I-Octane, Teflon, Romaine Virgo, Jesse Royal, Loyal Flames, Berri, Ishawna, Hezron, Nature, Hero and Pzed.

On Emceeing duties will be Zj Sparks from Zip 103  Fm and Elise Kelly and Kshema Francis from Irie Fm.

Set for Saturday December 27 at Pearly Beach in Ocho Rios, the event is sponsored by Guinness, Liquid Nitro, Ghetto Youths International, Global Vision Concepts, Conquer The Globe Productions, Zip FM, Irie FM and Mad Media House

Grammy award winning, diamond selling artist and philanthropist Shaggy, is ending the year with a bang.

Launching his own record label, Ranch Entertainment, in 2012, Shaggy focused on re-building the brand Shaggy and revamping his career. With a plethora of hits and being a household name worldwide, one may ask why the need to revamp?

After 18 years of hit singles and sold out tours, Shaggy shifted his focus to going on his own, launching his own record label and making his own musical decisions. For the most part of 2013 we saw Shaggy take on a genre of music he loves dear to his heart and release his first ever 100% reggae album titled, ‘Out of Many, One Music’. Produced by legendary Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare and longtime friend and producer Sting International,
Out of Many, One Music has received a Grammy nod for Reggae Album of the year.

“Out of Many, One Music is a classic album which people will listen to 10 years from now” says Hot97 Disc Joc Bobby Konders.

Throughout the promotion of ‘Out of Many, One Music’, Shaggy headlined four tours this year including Canada, Europe and two US tours. Headlining several European festivals throughout 2014 Shaggys’ demand remained high in the United States. While embarking on his second US tour for 2014, Shaggy took the time out to sign a deal with Sony Records.

The Sony/Brooklyn Knights/Ranch Entertainment deal, is one which still allows Shaggy to have creative say in the production of his music, yet have a powerhouse supporting his music and brand.

This is a major accomplishment for Shaggy, who was last signed to a major in 2006 and despite the naysayers has stayed focused, relevant and persevered through it all.
Signing such a deal during a time when record sales are at low across all genres is a major achievement for any artist. Currently promoting three new songs “I Need Your Love”
, which has received over 8million views in 3 months as well as ‘Picture’ and
‘Go F Yourself’ it is evident there is no stopping Shaggy. ‘I Need Your Love’, ‘Picture’ and ‘Go F Yourself’ will all come under the Sony/Brooklyn Knights/ Ranch collar.

“I’ve said it before, signing to a major is great, but you must establish yourself first as an artist and grow on your own. After you’ve created a buzz in the streets they (record companies) will come looking. And that’s what happened” says Shaggy.

2015 Grammy Nominees for Reggae Album of the Year!

The nominees are:

Ziggy Marley – Fly Rasta

Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry – Back At the Controls

Sean Paul – Full Frequency

Shaggy – Out of Many One Music

Sly & Robbie and Spicy Chocolate – The Reggae Power

SOJA – Amid The Noise and the Haste

Ziggy Marley still uses the standard set by his Father, Bob Marley, when it comes to producing good music, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry is not afraid to be himself which comes through in the unique music he makes. Sean Paul understands the power of a single frequency, not to mention what happens to the masses when they get full frequency (he chose the right title for his album).

Shaggy single handedly brought nations of people together, and the true intentions of his heart were revealed when this album was made. Not only is he the hardest working man in our business, he is one of the hardest working in music and entertainment, and always creates opportunities for others. Tessanne is just ONE of many.

Sly & Robbie never cease to amaze with their work ethic and work habits. They operate as if they have nothing and the project they are working on (currently) means everything to them. In other words, despite the many Grammy’s they’ve won in the past, despite the amount of world tours they’ve been on, they act as if all of it is happening again, but for the first time. This is so humbling.

SOJA are the newest kids on the Reggae block! They are well known on the West Coast of the US, and deep pockets between there and the east coast. The amount of their fans is equivalent to the amount of grains of sand found on a beach in Montego Bay … they have a lot!
